Model chooser

Which AI image model should I use?

Start from the job, not the leaderboard. Four common kinds of image work each have a model that fits them best; three of those models run in the same Imgo generator, so switching costs one dropdown and no new account.

Model behaviour changes with versions and inputs. Treat this page as the first route, the credit quote in the generator as the price, and your own test batch as the verdict.

The short answer

Product images and batch variantsNano Banana 2The fastest model in its family, clean in-image text, output up to 4K — built for volume and iteration.
Characters and brand consistencyNano Banana ProThe highest-fidelity model in the family, built so a face, character, or brand survives across frames.
Complex instructions and exact briefsGPT Image 2An instruction-led model: numbered requirements, precise layouts, and specified scenes are the job it is shaped for.

Product images and batch variants

Nano Banana 2

Listing images, colourways, seasonal variants, ad crops: work where you need many good candidates quickly and the product comes from your own reference photo. Nano Banana 2 turns briefs around fast enough to treat every output as a draft, and it is the cheapest place to be wrong.

Lock the product with an owned packshot and compare labels, logos, and proportions against the real item before anything is published.

Characters and brand consistency

Nano Banana Pro

A mascot across a campaign, a presenter across a series, a brand look across twenty assets, or reference frames that feed a video model. Nano Banana Pro holds identity hardest, so fewer accepted frames are lost to drift.

It is slower by design. Many teams draft compositions on Nano Banana 2, then finish the chosen frame on Pro.

Complex instructions and exact briefs

GPT Image 2

A brief with a checklist — this object here, that colour there, three labelled zones, a reference frame built to spec for a downstream video. GPT Image 2 is the model to use when following the brief matters more than adding its own style.

Write the brief as a list of requirements and check each one off on the result; plan for an iteration or two.

Strongly stylised creative work

Midjourney V8.2

Concept art, mood boards, editorial illustration, look development — work where a distinctive style is the point. Midjourney V8.2, the default version since July 2026, is still the reference for stylised output.

Midjourney runs only in Midjourney's own app; Imgo does not host it. When the look is approved and production needs repeatable, reference-locked variants, bring the reference into Imgo.

Still unsure? Run a 15-minute test

A route is a hypothesis. Settle it on your own input instead of a sample gallery.

  1. Fix the input: one prompt, one reference image, one aspect ratio, and the same number of outputs per model.
  2. Run it on two candidate models from the table above — in Imgo that is a model switch, not a new account.
  3. Count the accepted images, not the impressive ones, and divide the credits spent by that count. The lowest cost per accepted image wins the job.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI image model overall?
There is no single best model; there is a best model for each job. Nano Banana 2 wins on speed and volume, Nano Banana Pro on consistency, GPT Image 2 on following detailed instructions, and Midjourney on stylised aesthetics. Route by task, then verify with your own test batch.
Can I use Midjourney inside Imgo?
No. Midjourney is available only through its own app and does not offer the model to third-party workspaces. A common split is to explore the look in Midjourney, then produce the reference-locked variants, edits, and video handoff in Imgo.
Which of these models can I try for free?
Imgo's free plan includes a Nano Banana model with monthly credits. Nano Banana Pro unlocks on the Creator plan at $9.9 a month, and every generation, on any model, shows its credit price before you submit.
Can I switch models in the middle of a project?
Yes. The models share one generator, one asset library, and one credit balance, so a reference saved on one model can be reused on another. Keep the prompt and reference fixed when you switch, so you can tell which differences come from the model.
