Simple shapes, high contrast, large text
One strong visual element

Brand, headline, and one CTA only
A billboard has roughly three seconds of a driver's attention and one job: one message, legible at 70 mph. Everything in this workflow serves that constraint.
Before any image, write the message in five words or fewer: "five-word message here". A billboard that tries to say two things says nothing. The strongest boards carry a product shot, a brand mark, and one line β the line usually wins the recall, so spend your iteration budget on it.
Billboard proportions (roughly 14:48 for a standard bulletin) are wider than any generator ratio, so generate at 21:9 and extend or crop to the final ratio in your layout tool. Keep the product and the message inside the middle third β the safe zone drivers actually read β and leave the extremes for atmosphere. Generate the plate without text: headline type on a billboard must be set, not generated, because it has to survive 300 dpi at 6 Γ 12 meters.
The prompt pattern that works is a single hero product on a clean, high-contrast field with directional light. Distance kills detail: a board needs a shape that reads as a silhouette, not a texture. Test your concept by squinting β if the layout collapses into grey, it collapses at 200 meters too.
Generate at the highest resolution available, upscale to print size, and hand the printer a PDF with bleed. The advertising-standard ratio means your generator image is a component, not the final file β but it is the component that used to require a studio day and a product shoot at golden hour.
Direction exploration used to cost a day per route; now a route is a prompt with the palette and mood as variables. Run five palettes against the same hero composition, put the prints on the wall, and step back three meters β that is the honest simulation of a highway read, and it is how the winning board gets picked here.
A standard bulletin is roughly 14 feet 48 inches high by 48 feet wide β about 1:3.4, wider than any generator ratio. Generate the plate at 21:9, keep the message inside the middle third, and extend or crop to the final ratio in your layout tool with bleed.
One line of five words or fewer, set rather than generated. Billboard type has to survive 300 dpi at 6 Γ 12 meters, so it is set in a layout tool over the generated plate β the AI provides the hero image and the atmosphere, not the headline.
The three-meter rule: print the concept, put it on the wall, step back three meters and squint. If the layout collapses into grey, it collapses at 200 meters. A board needs a shape that reads as a silhouette, not a texture.
It can render a short headline, but it should not have to. Generated text cannot be re-kerned, re-colored or fixed after the client sees a typo β and at billboard scale, type is an engineering decision. Generate the plate clean and set the line.
